All rock formations at Arches National Park are temporary features on the landscape. Water shapes and transforms the sandstone, sometimes in slow ways, sometimes in dramatic ways.
Usually we don't witness those dramatic changes. But in , people were at Landscape Arch to observe a major rock fall. Around pm, on September 1, , people heard cracking and popping sounds coming from Landscape Arch, and two of them provided photos and video to the park.
Royce Morrison was at the arch on that day and captured photographs of the rock fall after hearing the cracking noises. He hiked up the slope behind the arch and recorded video of the rock fall.

He gave permission to the National Park Service to use this video. He provided a report of the rock fall when he shared the video. Permission has been given for National Park Service use. Then I heard again cracking and the noise of rocks hitting one against the other.
From now on one could clearly hear a continuously damp cracking. I know that something would happen here. Therefore I kept the video-camera directed towards the Landscape Arch and tried to find the cracks with the zoom-lens. Shortly after I had taped the first small rock fall. The sandstone, however, did not come to rest until a larger amount of rocks fell with loud cracking noise, releasing some of the stress.

Aug This house is great if you're looking for a nature experience on a very nice spot, near the lovely town Durango. The house is a little old fashioned, but fits well in the surrounding area.
Amber C. Oct Carol D. Jun Dale Robert C. Mar The only issue with the house was that the website and all the pictures lead you to believe that its 8 private acres. In fact there is a small house I assume a long term rental that was occupied ft. Also a collection of homes and RV's. That being said the house itself was great and the amenities inside the house were as described on the site.
Distance to Purgatory and Durango was ideal. Lora T. We loved the space the house had. The property was beautiful and my children loved being able to walk around the property. It was private but at the same time not too far from town. Edith C. Feb Alyssa G. The king bed in the master was terrible. It was rock hard. Def need somebody to come and clean up the outside of the spider webs and bugs.
Within 10 minutes of arriving we killed a bee and 2 other bugs all inside the house. I got the broom out and tried to remove webs all over the property. Manager response: We apologize for the issues this guest encountered. The mattress is firm, but there is a memory foam topper to make it softer for guests that have that preference.
Day 2: A Country Christmas at The Rock Ranch
We have inspected all the furniture and found it all to be clean. The couch has a brand new slip cover that is very clean. The owner has had pest control fill in the cracks that would allow bugs to slip through. We will be more diligent about keeping insects and cobwebs swept up. There will still be bugs and spiderwebs in the home due to it being located in the woods. Sharon W.
