Oct 28, Ashley rated it really liked it. I admit, from the first page this book had me completely hooked. The premise of story, such a controversial time in history, has always fascinated me, and this was no exception. I love medical dramas, being in the medical field myself, so this was right up my alley. The story started out strong, and the tension never stopped building, not even up to the last pages. That being said, though, there were definitely some jarring errors I noticed within this novel. First, the drama that is I admit, from the first page this book had me completely hooked.
First, the drama that is involved right at the beginning of the book between Laura and Johnny seemed a little I understand it was written within a rush of riotous scenes, but still. The casualness in which her husband brushed off their lack of love life bothered me a little too. I know for one my husband would at least find it suspicious. The book, though, hit quite a few things right on the head as far as accuracy goes, especially the affair and the failed relationships between the human doctors.
From what I have seen, it's all too common for that to happen in the medical world. The action was intense, and the story kept me clinging to the pages until I got to the last page. It was easy and fast and slightly predictable. I didn't believe in the characters that much and I questioned their decisions.

I felt like they were more stereotypes rather than rich people that I was invested in. I didn't have as much sympathy for them as I believe the author intended. I can tell this was the authors' first attempt. I didn't mind all of this while I was reading the story, however the final pages just totally fell flat. It reminded me of This was a good summer read - style book. It reminded me of an attempt at a modern Crime and Punishment, but without the follow-through. My recommendation: Skip it and read Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky.
Jan 04, Alanna rated it it was ok. This was a checkout stand mystery crossed with a checkout stand romance novel. Though I usually avoid such novels, I read it because I wanted to combine fiction with something even remotely medical. All in all it wasn't too bad, except that the protagonist had the annoying habit of making poor decisions with her main rationale being fear of what others might think. A historical fiction based on the riots of a Detroit in You follow and med students path to graduation through, rape, two pregnancies as well as other personal trials. After being raped, her fear of people finding out, lead to an unusual development between her and a leading surgical doctor.
Great book. Oct 24, Beverly rated it it was ok. I got this book on my Kindle for free from Amazon. There is some foul language since one of the characters is from a gang neighborhood. I almost quit reading after my first encounter with the language but wanted to see where the story was going so did finish the book.
It's not an awful read, especially since it was free, but I definitely can't recommend it. Dec 30, Valeree rated it it was ok.
