Prisoners of war were forced into hard labour to construct the railway under extremely harsh conditions and to commemorate the fallen, a national day of remembrance is set yearly on April 25 at Hellfire Pass as part of ANZAC day. Our first stop is a glimpse into the far reaching realm of the Khmer Kingdom. The ruins at Prasat Mueang Sing date back to the 13th and 14th centuries and we cycle between them and visit the small museum.
After our visit we cycle on great trails, passing by some teak plantations, as we make our way to the famous Death Railway. We take a break and walk on a scenic section of the railway that is built along a cliff above the River Kwai Noi to visit Krasae Cave. Visiting the cave, once a camp site for the prisoners of war building the railway.
Today, the cave is a place of worship with a sitting Buddha statue inside. After our first glimpse of the Death Railway we transfer to our riverside luxury safari tented camp. Thousands visit National Memorial Arboretum for 12222 Ride to the Wall
Sadly with numbers down last year, approx only 1, riders, maybe due to others attending the centenary events, we didn't manage as much as we would have liked. We did though along with your generosity, also have a couple of generous donations from two companies:. The money will be sent to Soldiers off the Street as soon as possible for them to use to help our veterans in finding much needed homes.
